SYDNEY.
Government Changes.—We have been giveu to understand that a private letter has been received in Sydney, from England, which states, (whether as facts or mere rumours, we know not) that the Port Phillip, or Southern District is very shortly to be separated from the Sydney, or Middle District, and that the present Acting-Governor of Van Diemen's Land, Mr. La Trobe, is to be the Lieutenant Governor thereof; that the hoa. the Colonial Secretary, Mr. E. D. Thomson, is to be ap-, pointed Lieut.-Governor of the Sydney or Middle District; and that our present Governor, Sir Charles A. Fitzßoy, is to be created Governor-General of all the Australian Colonies —Australian, Nov. 5.
Sir George Gipps.—The following appears in the London Mail of the 7th of May, under the headiDg of " Naval and Military Intelligence:" —
ORDNANCE. Royal Engineers. — Lieut.-Col. Sir G. Gipps will be appointed Commanding Engineer at Woolwich, vacant by the retirement of Lieut.-Col. Geo. Barney.
