VAN DIEMEN'S LAND.
It appears in a Launceston paper of the 17th Feb., that intelligence had reached the seat of Government at Hobart Town, that her Majesty had disallowed the act passed last year, exempting certain vessels from port dues v The disallowance of this measure, it was stated, would prove a serious inconvenience, as many vessels were shortly expected to arrive for provisions, believing the Exemption Act still in force. On the 17th February, Mr. Gregson was presented with a sum of two thousand guineas, accompanied by a silver salver, with an inscription thereon, to the effect that the gift is a contribution from the colonists, in testimony of their personal regard, and of approbation of the principles which have animated his public conduct, more particularly during the period of his membership of the Legislative Council.
