Easy test for the presence of Copper in supposed ore:-
1; Reduce a portion of the ore to powder •and put it into "a wine glass. v ' ' 2. Pour upon it diluted sulphuric acid. '• }" 3. When the' effervescence has ceased,'pour the liquor into a clean glass as clearly- as pos;sible. . • ' - 4. If itbe really copper' ore, as supposed, you will have a solution of sulphate of copper, and if, a knife blade lie inserte^ in it, metallic copper ,will he deposited in a few minutes. 'Aettfor Iron, — Iron ore may be treated in the same way as described in paragraphs 1, 2, and 3. Then, If the ore contains iron the solution will be a sulphate (commonly called copperas) »nd a few: drops, of tintture of. nut galls will produce ink; . • ," .' The* per ,centage of metal can Qhly Be,ascertained by more accurate analysis, and by weighing .the precipitates in a very accurate balance. •
