[From the Hobart Town Papers.]

Parliament was to be prorogued on .the 7th of August, and tier Majesty wouljd leave England on the following day. .. The Ramilies, barque, 740 to as, M'Lean, from London sth August, arrived "with troops in port yesterday morning. She brings Major Singleton, Captain Blosse, Captain Kenny, Lieutenant Parker, Ensigns Crook, Stewart, and Maclean, and Assistant-Surgeon Marshall, with 233 rank and file of the 1 Jth, 13 privates of the 58th, 43 of the 96th, and 5 of the 99tb regiments ; also Capt. Henderson, Lieut, the Hon. W. Yelverton, and 29 men, R. A., four women and three children, for New Zealand. Orders have been transmitted by -the Home Government to New South Wales to transmit six companies of the s§th ; six companies of the 96th ;■ and six companies of the 99th regiments to New Zealand. It was rumoured in the early part of the week, that the 11th Regiment would proceed on to New Zealand. The report seems premature* and unlikely, as it is understood that the 69th Regiment have been sent out there direct from England. The opinion seems to gain ground rapidly that a Governor-General of the Australian Colonies will shortly be appointed. The report which originated at Sydney emanates from the immediate freinds of Sir George Gipps, upon the authority of piivate letters from England. The circumstances of Governor Grey's successor being gazetted as Lieutenant-Go-vernor, while he himself is only appointed in Governor Fitzroy's place as Lieutenant-Go-vernor of, New Zealand, And tHe Gbteruor of Van Diemen's Land being only a LieutenantGovern or, adds much to the credibility^ of "the rumour* • . > ** - On the day of the departure of his.Excellency Governor Grey for New Zealand, his Excellency received addresses' from tHe colonists and public bodies, and- held an undress levee. Mrs. Grey, at the same time, received the ladies of the province. Outside" tHe sceue was scarcely less interesting. , Detachments of the troops and the mounted' police were on duty in front of Government House-; carriages of all sorts were constantly moving to and fro ; and a great number of her Majesty's subjects both black and. white occupied the foreground. About two o'clock his Excellency and Mrs. Grey, in their carriage, attended by a great number of ladies and gentlemen in carriages, and about, forty horsemen, set off for the port. At -Hindmarsh and Bowden the inhabitants gave a salnte of nineteen guns, and expressed their good wishes through one of the principal inhabitants, who followed his Excellency to the port. At the port the cheering was most enthusiastic ; the vessels were decorated ; and the scene altogether was exceedingly pleasing. His Excellency and lady were conveyed in a small cutter ou board the Elphinstone, which weighed anchor at 3 o'clock the following morning, and sailed with a favourable breeze down the gulf. — Sfouth Australian.
