NELSON.
i Exports. — Our infant settlement is beginning to furnish indications of advancement, by exporting something in exchange for our imports* The timber trade is a branch which we are persuaded will be carried on to some extent, as there is a growing demand in all tbe neighbouring colonies for the very excellent building timber which abounds in this settlement. Two vessels, laden principally with timber, have sailed for Sydney during the past week ; and the Lady Leigh may be expected daily to load for Hobart Town. — The Lively will sail this evening for Auckland with a second cargo of Hooper's ale, and will return laden with barley. — There is also a considerable quantity of rope maiiufactered here at the three rope-walks, and shipped to* Sydney, Hobart Town, &c. — Several pair of sawyers find employment in cutting staves of black birch for oil casks, which, though intended principally for the whaling stations on out own coast, will find a ready sale in all the Australian colonies as soon as their value becomes appreciated. New Brewery. — Our agriculturists will be glad to hear that another brewery will be started eaily next year, and that they will thus find a home market for all theii barley.
