To the Editor of the New Zealand Spectator.

Sir, — As a proof of Captain Fitzroy's recklessness in the issue of money so easily coined as his debenture, I may note a fact which has recently occurred within my own observation, namely, the issue of a five pound debenture with the signatures of the Colonial Secretary and Treasurer, but without the Governor's signature. It is to be presumed the Governor usually signs first, as the Treasurer's signature with the date of issue is on this debentures one year after the date at Government House, where his Excellency usually signs them. Surely when these officials are so well paid for the little they have to do, and so eagerly exact all they can get out of the exhausted treasury, such culpable and disgraceful carelessness on their part is too bad. I am, Sir, Your obedient servant, July 17, 1845. Antjt-Humb g.
