DINNER TO THE AMERICAN CONSUL.
On Friday, July 4th, the anniversary of American Independance, a public dinner was given at Barrett's hotel to J. B. Williams, Esq., Consul of the United States, in New Zealand, A. Macdonald, Esq., of the Union Bank of Australia, in the chair; C. Clifford, Esq., vice-chairman. A variety of toasts were given, expressive of cordiality between the two great commercial people. '- The company broke up at a late hour, their guest apparently much gratified.
