LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Thursday, April 10, 1845.
The Council met pursuant to adjournment. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Governor moved the order of the day for the consideration of Mr. Heale's statement, suggesting the discussion of a measure for the withdrawal from circulation of the small Government debentures. After a lengthened discussion, Mr. Heale moved the following resolution :—: — Resolved — That it is highly inexpedient that any new debentures should be issued, unless for the purpose of retiring those already in circulation-. Mr. Whittaker moved as an amendment the following resolution v — Resolved — That it appears to this Council that the issue of debentures under existing circumstances, should be extended sufficiently to pay off the debts due by the Colonial Government, and that the interest on' such debentures should be a first charge on the Colonial Revenue. — On the amendment being put — For — The Governor, Thg. Colonial Secretary, The Colonial- Treasurer, • i^ttorney-General,-Mr. Wlnttaker, Mr. Donelly. Against — Mr. Heale.
