WANGANUL
The payment promised by Pakero, for the Greenstone stolen by him, was sent to Prophet a short time since. It consisted of ten or twelve Pigs, nearly all of which were in such an ema ciated state, as to be almost unfit for human food. They were of course refused, and the Natives were informed that, the affair was in the hands of the Government and no payment could now be taken. Turoa and friends began to bully and threaten, referred to the Wairau massacre and said that, when Pakero, some time since stole a cask of tobacco, he was not punished, and why should so much be said about this robbery? ; however, they eventnally shewed evident symptons of fear, and Turoa is greatly alarmed lest he be made to suffer for the theft. o
