By the Velocity we have an English Mail yfrf Sydney, with dates to the 20th Nprr., the papers we have received contain little news of importance — v?e make a few extracts. .i
DR. WOLF, Capt. Grover has just received the following from the, Rev. Dr. Wolff. " Meshed, Month of Shaban 23. " My Dear Gvover: Not venturing when at Bokhara to keep a journal, 1 have forgotten the date of the Christian month ! After the infamous Nayib Abdool Summut Khan had forced from me the promise to pay him 6,000 tillas, I should after all have been put to death if Abbas Kulli Khan, the Persian ambassador, had not saved me. lam now in Persia, broken down in constitntion, robbed of every thing I hsM and with a debt of 6,000 tillas (£2,500), which I am to pay to the brother of the Nayib Abdool Summut Khan, who is to accompany me to Tehran. '• You thought that £4,000 could be collected for my purpose;. if you can now assist me in paying the debt above mentioned to the infamous Nayib, who forced the promise in his garden, surrounded by his guards, well ; if not I shall be obliged to" go to prison in Persia. "The King has also sent with me an ambassador who is to go to England, and the Nayib . has forced me to promise to pay the expense of that ambassador out of the money tie advanced to me. That same ambassador has excited the Turcomans of Mawr and Sarakehs against uo ; i. c. , against Abbas Kulli Khan and myself on our way to Meshed, and forced Abbft* Kulli Khan to pay him arid the other ambassador appointed for Persia 150tillas in the midat of the desert. " Mkshkd. — The above, though dated from, was written at Mostroon. lam now at Meshed, and two hours after me your ghalam ( special courier ) A li Ahmed Beyk, arrived ; he rounb me broken down in Mullah Mehdee's house. J will only add, that the Nayib wants- only the interest of the above money to be paid to his son when of age. The ambassador from Bokhara is also here ; he has letters and presents for the Shah, the Sultan, and Queen Victoria. The Nayib has settled with the King that I bhould bear the ambassador's expenses from the money the Nayib expects to be Daid back. I am not yet out of danger, but arnto^ confused to explain now..* Mullah Mehdee^wiH do, it for me. Lieut. Wyburd has been murdered at Bokhara. " Joseph Wolff." I
