CORRESPONDENCE.

February 24, 1846. Sir, — I have been directed by "the Committee for forming a Volunteer Corps," to inform the Magistrates of the district, that in accordance with the suggestion in your letter of the 13th inst., the Committee " have ascertained with precision the individuals who may be relied on to muster and practice the use of arms, in particular places under competent instructors " The Committee beg that you will lay before the Magistrates, the accompanying list of Volunteers, and their commanding officers, and that on obtaining their wri ten authority, as required by the Act of Parliament, you will have the goodness to forward it to me. I am desired to add that a much larger list of persons willing to e-irol themselves might be immediately obtained. I have the honor to remain, Sir, Your obedient servant, W. E. Vincent, Secreiary. C. Sir, — I herewitn enclose the authority requested from the Magistrates, by the Comraitte for organizing a Volunteer Corps, to enable them to have the force drilled and trained to the use of arms. Wellington, February 28, 1815. We, the undersigned Magistrates, hereby authorize Major Baker, Major Hornbrook, and Capt. Shafpe, to drill and train to the use of arras the persons whose names arc contained in tlid liit, anu according to the regulations furnished us by the Committee, on the 24th instant. Chas. Clifford, J.P. W. Wakefield, J.P. William Swainson, F.R.S. J.P. Henry W. Petre, J.P. Edward Chetham, J P. Edward Daniell, J.P.

The Volunteers are desired to turn out, for the first time, on Tuesday evening next, at six o'clock. The Te Aro Division, consisting of the inhabitants residing on the Te Aro side of the South Sea Hotel, will meet on Te Aro Flat, near Mr. Bevans' rope walk ; and the Thorndon Division, consisting of the inhabitants residing on the Pipitea side of the South Sea Hotel, will meet onTliorndon Flat, opposite the residence of Mr. Mocatta. Mr. Thomas Crowther will be the principal drill sergeant for the Te Aro Division, assisted by Mr. Masters. Mr. W. Neal will be drill sergeant ior the Thorndon Division. By order of the Volunteer Corps Committee.
