COLONIAL EXTRACTS.

A rise in the value of stock appears to be general both in New South Wales and Van Dieraen's Land, as will be seen by the following extracts :—: —

Increased Valui; of Sheep. — Four months ago, the highest price given for good sheep was 2s. per head, and many flocks were sold, under peculiar circumstances, at a price much below even this. At the present time, the skins alone woul 1 readily fetch (he above sura, and the price in Sydney, of sheep, of average weight, say 60 lbs., is 10s. a head. This increased value i-s the natura 1 cansequence of tho recent rise ia the price of wool, combined with the great diminution of stock, consequent upon the operations of so many boil-ing-down establishments. The additional value of sheep will, however, put a stop to this mode of disposing of them, which will only lie resorted to in periods of unusual depression, when a combination of circumstances have sunk stock far below its natural commercial value — a state of things we heartily wish may not soon occur. The advance in sheep stock has not extended to cattle and horses, the value of which is unaltered, though an improvement is anticipated. — Australian, September 16.

Sale of Stock. — Mr. Underwood effected a sale at Cressy, at advanced prices :—: — Fat sheep, shorn, brought from Bs. to 14s. 3d each; cows, from £5 to £14 each; other stock at proportionally good prices. — Cornwall Chronicle.
