NATIVE CORRESPONDENCE.

November 5, 1844. Go then ray letter to William, to Mr. Clarke, to the Governor, — friends, this is what I have to say to you, listen unto me. Take heed of some strangers, who sell the land or the wood from the circumstance that they do it clandestinely, it is not arranged by the many. This also, — I have seen the saying of you of the white people, of the Governor in the newspaper, concerning the purchase of Taranaki, the natives heard this and now the natives cf this place, if they sell the land secretly, they are wrong. Friend Governor, receive this letter graciously, send the contents of it to England to our Queen Victoria the Queen, let it be determined by her ; then you may come, and the white peop'e of England to live at Wairarapa, to settle down here. I wish for some white people as neighbours. Should the white people come, let them behave well to the Maories ; this is all I have to say to you, to the white people, to the chiefs of the white people, concerning this place, concerning Wairarapa. William will make this known to Mr. Claik, to Colonel Wakefield, and to all the whi'e people, that they may all hear this. , From me Simon Peter Te Inaki. From me William Te HiAkAi. Wararapa. [Translated by the Rev. S. Ironside.]
