AN EXPLANATION.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir, —In your paper of the 19th inst. there was an article, copied from the Queenslander, the purport of which was that I had been asked to join a Republican Club and had refused, and justified such refusal by a paper in “ Fraser’s Magazine,” from which the article made several extracts. Judging by those extracts, I should be glad to have been the author of the paper, but justice to whoever was the author compels me to say that I am not he, that I have no knowledge of the paper, and I may add I have never been asked to join a Republican Club.—-I am, &c., Julius Vogel. February 21.
