A meeting of the Wellington Cricketing Association was held at the Pier Hotel on Tuesday, to make arrangements respecting the Nelson match, and to consider the .prospect of a team of Victorian cricketers visiting New Zealand. The choice of a team to meet the Nelson eleven was the principal matter for discussion. Eventually it was decided that the eleven should be chosen from the following thirteen : Armitage, Knapp, Parrington, Gouge, I. J. Salmon, Evans, J. W. A. Marchant, Izard, J. A. N. Salmon, Mason, Lockett, J. Kennedy, W. J. Salmon. Mr. Bromley was invited to act as umpire, and Mr. Humphries as scorer. The match, it is believed, will be played in the first week in March. A dinner will be given to the visitors, and E. Pearce, Esq., M.H.R., is to be requested to take the chair. A long conversation then ensued in respect to the possible visit of a Victorian eleven. It was stated that the proposition had emanated from Mr. Robertson, a well-known cricketer in Victoria, who had spoken of bringing over a team of gentlemen players, who would come over just for a pleasure trip at their own expense, and it was understood that written communications had been addressed to the Auckland and Christchurch clubs, while to Wellington a verbal massage had been sent by Major Campbell, who some time since paid a visit to Melbourne. As there was nothing definite before the meeting, the secretary was requested to wait upon Major Campbell, and if necessary correspond with the secretaries of the Auckland and Christchurch clubs. Napier, Saturday. At the Ro wing Club Regatta on St. Patrick’s Day the prizes will amount to £IBO. The programme includes race for amateurs in fouroared clinker batswing gigs and uncovered gigs of any build ; prize £SO in cash or plate, with five cups of the value of £25 added, £75 in all; whaleboat race for £2O and £5, &c. Entries close on March 10. The second rowing club is started. It is called the Union Rowing Club. Thirty-five members have joined. It will take part in the ensuing regatta. New Plymouth, Saturday.
