A further extension of the Northern Railway to Amberley, 34 miles from Christchurch, was opened 'on Wednesday. A commemorative luncheon was he d, Superintendent and other officials being present. The address presented to Sir Julius Vogel foy the Mayor on Thursday, is most beautifully written and illuminated by Mr. E. Brandon in gold and black and colors on parchment. The letters are formed symmetrically, and colored with exquisite taste, and a .very beautiful border of silver fringe with tassels surrounds it. It is nicely mounted with silver rings by Mr. G. L. Jenness, upon a red pine roller made foy Mr. James, of Lambton-quay, and it is backed with white satin.
