PHENOMENON.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND MAIL. Sir,— Many will like to know of the following phenomenon:—The moon will pass over Venus on the afternoon of January 29, at five o clock. It will be easy about mid-day to pick up the moon, and Venus will then be readily seen also on the right of the moon. As the occultation will be in daylight, and the moon's dark edge will first touch the planet, Venus will appear to be blotted out by nothing. I once sawJupiter occulted, and the moon took fifty seconds to pass over the planet. Any good glass will show the occultation well. The time of the occultation will be known by the gradual approach of the moon to > enus. —I am, &c, _ ' Observer. January 12, 1876.
