The " Hawke's Bay Herald" says : For the past two or three years, a native hapti atlvaha Point, about thirty miles south of Opotiki, in the Bay of Plenty, have successfully followed whaling, and the oil has been taken to Auckland and sold. We learn from a Northern contemporary that the present season has been a very successful one. Four boats were employed, and the total quantity of oil saved was about twenty tuns. Their example is becoming generally followed, and ten new whaleboats are being built for the natives along the coast between Opotiki and Te Kaha. The whales appear to be more numerous along the coast than formerly.
