The " Timaru Herald" of the 2nd February reports an accident that occured to Judge Ward on Tuesday last:—He was returning on horseback from town, and whilst shutting the gate in the road fence, the horse (a spirited one) was struck by the gate, and bolted off full gallop for home, clearing a lot of posts which were lying in the paddock, and jumping the garden gate —or the fence close alongside —which would be no small jump in the hunting field. The distance from the garden gate to the house is short, and the roadway to the stables at the back runs alongside the house, turning off the front road almost at right angles. la making this turn, the horse swerved so sharply that his Honor was thrown, and fell against the stone wall of the house. Fortunately, his hat saved him from serious injury.
