Steamers up to 45 feet in length can be transported on a ship’s deck complete, and ready for immediate use on arrival. The above may be used for conveying passengers, carrying cargo, or as tugs. The total working expenses of a steamer 43 feet long, amount to 15s a day in England ; t.he consumption of fuel being about 6cwt, and a man and a boy the crew required. _ Paddle and Screw Steamers specially designed for river navigation, having a very shallow draught of water.
