Gold Prospecting at Tauranga.—A party organised by one or two publicspirited gentlemen in Te Papa was intended to start for Kaimai on Saturday last, for the purpose of prospecting for gold which is known to exist there. That portion of the country has always been highly spoken of by persons who have seen the various goldfields of New Zealand. The place is a spur of the great Coromandel range, and at one portion of it the hills form a kind of amphitheatre, at the foot of which there is supposed to be a large deposit of the precious metal.
The Blenheim Eailway.—The Marlborough " Press" notices the arrival at Picton of Mr Bell, one of Messrs Brog den's engineers, in company with the Superintendent of that province. The object of this visit is to make surveys for the projected railway, a work in which he is to be assisted by Mr A. Dobson, and it is said that, on', an early opportunity, Messrs Henderson and Dees will also visit the province.
