Christchubch. —The " Lyttelton Times" of the 23rd reports : —lnquiries for wheat are very limited, and holders are now willing to accept ss. Stocks are not heavy, otherwise values would be even weaker. Flour remains slow of sale at £l4. A small export demand can be noted for oats ; nevertheless, holders in store continue to quote 2s 7d to 2s 8d for heavy milling, and for farmers' lots 2s 5Jd to 2s 6d is the top quotation. Good bright malting barley remains moderately active, for local use, at 3s to 3s 3d up to 3s 6d. Butter of really prime quality fit for export is commanding 7d to 7id. No demand exists for cheese. Hams and bacon are dull of sale, and ne immediate improvement is likely to result, owing to the few export orders received. Potatoes are still inquired for at £2 15s to £3. Auckland.—The " N.Z. Herald" of the 23rd reports : —The mining sharemarket has exhibited during the week a decided weakness, we cannot call it depression, because such is not the case. Shares no longer derive their value from telegraphic messages or impressions of the workings of the mines, their value is now founded upon facts, and those facts are the dividends declared. Amongst the mines in considerable favor now are the Tokatea, of Coromandel, and Nonpariel, of the Thames, and we understand that large investments have been made during the week. In general business, the flour market may be considered very healthy. Good oats are scarce and command 3s per bushel. In most other respects the market is firm.
