School Dkill—lt would appear that the intention of the Auckland Board of Education, to make drill a portion of school discipline, is not viewed with favor in some quarters. A letter was read at a recent board meeting, from a settler, in which he stated that if drill were enforced at the school where his three sons and one daughter were being educated, he should at once take them away: As may be supposed, says the "Herald," the letter caused considerable amusement, .but ot course, if parents do not wish to have their boys'drilled, no compulsion will be used in the matter. Whether the writer of the letter in question is a quaker of a more than a usually severe - type, or whether he believes that to drill his children is to instil into their young minds a thirst for blood, is more than we can say, but we should think there are very few men in this colony, or, indeed, in any other, who are possessed of such singular notions as the settler referred to.
