COMMERCIAL.

Auckland.— The “Herald” of the 31st ult, has the following report on the Commercial transactions of the week : —On Thursday Mr S. Jones sold a portion of Honolulu sugars, in kegs : yellow counters at 2£d to 2Jd in bond : brown crystals, 2|d to 2%d lb. On Friday Mr B. Tonks passed under the hammer some 1800 packages of a shipment ex Nebraska. He disposed of bright yellow crystals at 3£d to 3|d lb, in kegs; bright brown crystals at 2fd per lb, and other samples of browns at from 2f-d to 2£d, in bags, in bond. Nearly all the mats were withdrawn for an advance on the prices offered. The prices realised were indeed low, and we fear they will offer few or no inducements to replenish this market with similar sugars. The consignor’s have themselves to blame in making, at one time, such heavy shipments to a limited market like this for ration sugars, when for this class, to say the least, there is but a small consumption. The salmon, a very small portion, sold at 13s per doz 1 lb tins, and the balance is held for this price. When the" teas were brought forward there was a rush to the door, evidencing a dislike on the part of the trade to go in for teas, and they were consequently withdrawn. This at once will give the state of the market for teas, which we can confirm by stating that there is at present no sale for them, and from all vre can hear the market is fully stocked. With reference to the sugar market tlio “ Cross” says : —Buyers are evidently adverse to operating in the face of the cargo now overdue, and the large shipments expected from Australia. We perceive some 9000 bags were shipped in one bottom to Christchurch from Sydney ; evidently the Australian markets are much overstocked. In breadstuff’s and grain no change in prices has taken place, excepting in maize, and best qualities wholesale are quoted lower. Feed barley is also lower. The imports during the month have been on a very reduced scale, viz, 70 tons wheat, 61 tons flour, 400 bushels oats, 200 bushels barley, 3768 bushels Sydney maize, and 368 bushels Provincial maize, which latter is worth 4s 9d per bushel.
