Death at Putiki.—Eeuben, the third son of Mete Kingi, died last week at his father's kianga, at Wanganui. The deceased, a lad of about seventeen, only returned from the boarding school a few months ago. He was for a Maori, a very intelligent youth, and could read and write English very well; his father spent a considerable sum in educating him, and his loss is severely felt by his parents. Singular to relate a schoolfellow of his, an adopted child of Aperaniko, another Putiki chief, died from the same complaint consumption, three months after he returned from school. We are extremely soory to say that Hoani, Mete Kingi's eldest son, is now very ill and not likely to recover.
