FOXTON, July 9. A body was found ou the sea beach, about four miles- south of the Manawatu River, and was conveyed to Foxton. It is supposed to be that of poor Lawrence. Identification is almost im possible. An inquest will be held tomorrow. AUCKLAND, July 4. The share market is more steady : Caledonians are selling at £180; Thames, £39 ; Tookeys, £3B ; Otago, £3 5s and firm ; Belfasts, £7 ss; Kelly’s, £3 ; Poverty and Charleston, £9 H)s; Junction, £3; Cures, £2; Nonpareils, £4 ss. ; - During the week 7150 ounces have been received from the Thames. The Tokatea crushing of 250 tons realised 2100 ounces. A dividend will be paid on Thursday. A new company called the Albion has been formed, and embraces the Poverty and Charleston and Kelly’s and Belfast, adjoining the Caledonian.. Several merchants contemplate forming a whaling company, and the barque Albion is being fitted out. Earl and Countess Belmore arrived by the Hero, and are guests of the Governor. The Luna will leave about the 9th for Wellington, with the Governor’s furniture. The Great World Circus is performing to crowded houses. July 7. A sudden fall in all mining stock yesterday, towards evening, occasioned a panic. Caledonians have declined to £l6O ; Thames to £3O. The market is firmer to-day, with buyers at quoted prices. Small holders became alarmed in consequence "bf the small quantity of specimens taken out this week from ilie Caledonian, whose men have been employed to secure the mine and sink for a lowel level. It is generally believed that the dividends will be small for the next few weeks, but will increase again. Tookey’s remains firm. The Governor and Earl Belmore visit the Thames to day in the Luna. Earl Belmore will probably return to Sydney on Saturday by the Hero. It is reported that Ropata has joined Te Kooti, but it is not believed.

Muirhead death for the murder of Gilfillan has had his sentence commuted to penal servitude.

Caledonians sold to-day at £100; Thames, £22; Tookey, £24; Alburnia, £8 ; Otago's, 55s ; Caledonian pay £6 dividend to-morrow ; Thames, 20s ; Tokateas, ss. The total amount of gold from the Thames was 34,600 ounces. The Alburnia completed their fortnight’s crushing to-day, the result being 989 ounces. NAPIER, July 8.

Important intelligence has been received from Locke. At Taupe he attended a meeting of natives in favor of opening the road. The meeting was a large one. Locke proceeds to Cambridge, and thence to Auckland. NELSON, July 11.

Manson Sinclair, son of Donald Sinclair, solicitor, while practising with a detonating needle revolver accidentally shot himself. One charge not going off, he was trying to adjust the pistol, and the charge exploded. The ball entered his stomach and passingthroughhisbody, lodged in a house. He said he was shot &nd lay down on his bed.He is still alive, but no hope of his recovery is entertained.

HOKITIKA, July 10. The steamer Waipara left for Martin’s Bay and intermediate ports a fortnight ago, and has not since been heard of. The weather throughout that period has been uncommonly boisterous. She is supposed to be safe, but weather bound July 11. No news of the Waipara has yet been received. July 13. The County Council opened its session to-day. The Chairman’s address I represents the financial position of the county as healthy, and eulogises the General Government for the consideration shown to this district. July 14. The Waipara arrived this morning. She was weather bound at Martin’s Bay. Mark Sprot, auctioneer and cattle salesman, died this morning at ten o’clock, deeply regretted as a genial and estimable citizen. CHRISTCHURCH, July 7. Thu University Social Gathering was attended by more than nine hundred persons. Judge Chapman and Professor Sale were the principal speakers.
