MINING AT THE THAMES.
We take from the Thames letter of the " N.Z. Herald" of the 25th : CALEDONIAN COMPANY. Since the telegram of Saturday night three shifts have come up from below, and the quantity of specimens they have brought up is 25 cwt, some of them very good indeed, but upon the whole only medium. EUREKA. The report of a find in this claim on Saturday has turned out false, as I anticipated, and on the only ground upon which the run on scrip was founded is simply on the strength of what the Kuranui Company are doing, and the only deduction I can make is simply some enterprising individual wanted a rise, and set the ball rolling by saying that the Kuranui Co.'s manager and men were buying all the shares of this company they could lay their hands upon. DAUNTLESS AND SINK TO BEST The manager of this company reports having broken out early this morning about 251bs of very good specimens, making a total since last Tuesday of 60lbs. It is anticipated the next crushing will be very remunerative. JUNCTION^ Five beads of stampers have been employed by the company during the month. $5 ft« Jpwanui.
machine, and the cleaning up is now taking place, the result of which is expected to be very good. INVERNESS. The trihuters on the Inverness leader, back of the 100 feet level have iust commenced to retort the amalgam obtained from 30 tons crushed at the Prince Alfred machine, and the yield is expected to be about 2 ounces. TABAEU.
With the exception of Gibbon's or Flora Macdonald machine, the whole of the batteries on this creek are at present idle and the neighborhood seems to be dead-and-alive, but this will only be so for a few days longer, as the machines are preparing to put through large quantities of stone from various claims situated in Fiery Creek, the transit of which has been retarded by the wet weather and the delay in the completion of the branch tramway connecting this promising creek with the main line. SHIPMENT OF GOLD. A very large shipment of gold is being made by the Bank of New South Wales this afternoon, per the Golden Crown, 13,588 ozs. being the weight sent on board. This is the last lot of the Caledonian gold.
