The "Dundee Advertiser" states that at a children's, soiree held in a village in the county of Kincardine the other night, a clergyman—in charity we refrain from giving his name—addressing nearly three hundred young people,,checked their youthful spirits by forbidding them to applaud, telling them "there would be nothing of that kind and no laughter in heaven," and that these manifestations, of feeling were " inconsistent with religion." It is a wonder that this reverend gentleman did not prohibit singing at the meeting j hut he evidently does not consider this exercise " inconsistent with religion," for at the close of the address (according to our information) he sung "The Lord our Righteousness," to the profane tune of " TSChen. the Kyo Come Hame!"
