THE SAN FRANCISCO MAIL SERVICE.
We (" Southern Cross") may expect to see the Nevada in Auckland harbor on the 3rd of May, as her departure was fixed for the Bth of this month. Her arrival in New Zealand waters will be an actual fact, which no amount of envious detraction can explain away, though we are perfectly prepared to hear of some fresh line of obstruction being taken up by a party whose sole object it seems to be to thwart any measure indicating progress and development. Already, having exhausted their arguments against the contract, they have fallen foul of the ships themselves ; the power of spite could go no further. A slight difference appears between the postal contract entered into between Mr Vogel and Messrs Webb and Holladay, and that published on the arrival of the last mail. The Nevada will stay in Auckland for two davs on this, her first trip, and we doubt not will attract many visitors to welcome her presence as the inauguration of a new era of a rapid and stable national inter-communication.
