ODD FELLOWS' HALL.
The performance in aid of the Benevolent Society on Monday evening by the Yirago Amateurs was a great success. The drama of the " Dream at Sea" was produced, the best part of which was the three visions produced previous to the second act being commenced. The mechanical effects were perfect, and loud applause was awarded by the audience. The drama, on the whole, was gone through, for amateurs, in a creditable manner, a large portion of the credit being due to the gentlemen in the orchestra who kindly gave their semces to render the music incidental to the piece. The interlude was a great success, each performer in this portion of the entertainment receiving loud encores. The farce of "Mrs White" brought the performance to a close, and as far as the acting in the piece is concerned, the least said about it the better, as the stage manager deemed it advisable to drop the curtain when the " farce" had scarcely been proceeded with half way. Something had evidently occurred to clause them to forget their parts. This was doubtless attributable to the hard work and long rehearsal during the day. We would venture to suggest that on the next occasion they do not attempt so ambitious a performance, requiring so much study and knowledge of stage business. Miss Williams' rendering of her part in the drama was distinguished by her usual care and ability. The funds of the benevolent institution for which this performance was given will doubtless reap a large benefit, and we will be glad to welcome the gallant tars of the Virago before the lights soon again. We cannot say they are first-class actors, but the kindly spirit that prompted the performance and the great labor it must have cost them demand our most grateful acknowledgments.
