Business remains in the same dull state as has been our lot to report for some weeks past, and with the exception of a few country orders, the trade of the past week is hardly worth recording. There is scarcely an article of colonial produce which is not at its lowest value, and that circumstance alone must necessarily affect the value of imported goods, which are difficult of sale and unremuneratire. Butter in kegs, of good quality, has been offered at 5d per lb, hut there is no demand for this article of export. In feeding grains prices rule low. Oats have been quitted at 2a lOd per bushel, and at auction realised 2s 9(1. An experiment shipment of hamß, bacon, and butter to Honolulu, by a firm in this city, realised a considerable loss. - There is the usual demand for liquids at our former quotations, sales being restricted to small parcels. Sugars are low in stock. Melbourne Company’s No. 1 counters have advanced 10s per ton. Supplies are expected by next steamer. “ At Messrs Johnston & Co. s sale by auction on the 21st instant, the following prices were realised : —Saucel’s and Kirkliston’s case whisky, in bond, 105..6d per case; JDKZ geineva, 4 gals, proof, 14s 3d to 14s 9d per case ; tea, in boxes, Is 3Jd ; Akaroa cheese, sid per' lb; Devoe’s and Downer’s kerosine, D.P., 3s lid to 3s 2d per gallon ; sheet zino, £25 per ton; lamp chimneys, Is 2d ppr doz ; Manila rope, assorted sizes lin to 3in, £65 per ton; New Zealand do, £45 per ton ; 75 .boxes window glass, 12 x 10 to 24 x 18, fetched 14s, per 100 ft. 2 cases assorted saddlery sold at fair prices,And a lot of box tea, ex Melita, slightly damaged, realised Is 7d per lb, duty .paid-; ,• ..; ' On the same day, Mrrß.
