PEACE CUP MATCH DEFEAT OF MATAMATA FINAL CHALLENGE GAME Rugby competitions were continued in tho various country centres of the Auckland province 011 Saturday. In the final challenge match for the Peace Cup Morrinsville beat, Matamata by 9 points to G. The following results were forwarded by correspondents of the HUUAMI:

The game was hard and interesting throughout and was watched by a record crowd. Morriiisville had slightly tho better of the openins: play, good defence by A. Lowry and D. Carlson saving for Matamata. Attacks by Moirinsville forwards resulted in Faulkneir scoring in the corner. Morrinsville, 3; Mcitamata, 0. From the drop-out the Morrinsville forwards swept downficld and a try looked certain, but Lowry aud Halford returned play to Morrinsville territory and Gerinann sent D. Carlson over for a try, making the score 3-all. Fairly oven play followed until near half-time, when Bodmin scored a good try, making Morrinsville, 6; Matamata, 3. Morrinsville had a territorial ad rant age practically throughout the second half and W. Cameron added to its score with a penalty goal. High School beat Walton by 6 points to 6 in the final of the third grade knock-out con:petition. Johnson and Seed scored tries for the winners, while a try by Franklin, converted by Hirst, made up Walton's score. T» Kulti Athletic, champion team of the Taumarunui sub-union, won the Hetet Shield from Piopio at Te Kuiti by 13 points to H. after a good game. The trophy, which is competed for among champion teams of the King Country sub-unions, has been held by Maniapoto for several years. Tnuranga.—Two Rugby Cup finals were played in ideal weather. In the Gilbey Cup between Matokana and Rangataua seniors a V;eon game was won by Malakana by 17 points to 10. For the winners tries were scored by P. Gardiner (2). W. Ngahoe and P MeLeod. while D. Ainsley kicked a penally goal anrl M. Murray converted ono try, For Rsnsataua P. Gear and H._ Jones each scored, Gear converting both tries. In tVe final for the Green Memorial Cup for juniors Judea defeated Athletics by 20 points to 0. Scorers for Judj>a were C. Matthews, K. Walker. S. Kohn, R. Matthews, while H. Kohn kicked two penalty goals and Hull converted one try. I'aertia. —Wiles was the star plaverforthe College Rifles team against Paeroa. He gained the 15 pointn to Paeroa's six with a try, which hj« converted, two penalty and one field goal. For Paeroa Moore kicked a penalty goal and Fulton scored. It was a hard forward game, with little between the teams. The Paeroa forward* were slightly superior but the backs lacked finish. In the junior game Grammar Old Boys beat the Paeroa junior representatives by 16 points to 10.

The Morrinsville junior representatives hold the Clarke which represents the Waikato junior championship. while the senior representatives hold the Fiulay Cup. which represents the Waikato senior championship and tho Peace Cup. which is played for by subunions of th' 9 South Auckland district. Whtingarflf.—There was a fair attendance nl; Kensington Park, when a senior knockout competition was held for teams under t.lie control of the Whangarei Rugby Union. Only the four principal teams competed and the competition was won by Hikurangi, •which also won tha senior championship. The main attraction was the match between •Hikurangi ond City, the latter team being mmner-up in the championship. The games wero played in perfect weather on ft hard wound, and on the day Hikurangi was liuperior to City.
