RAGLAN NEWS.

[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Mr. Cuffe, of Te Uku, who met with an accident through his horse falling with him some time ago, underwent an operation, at the Waikato Hospital for the reduction of a dislocation of the hip, and is now in a fair way to recovery. The journey from Mr. Cuffe's residence to. the hospital, by. buggy occupied 10 hours. • The bachelors of Te Mala gave their annual ball in the . schoolroom there on the 26th ; ult. The room was tastefully decorated, the floor was in splendid order, and both musio and refreshments left- nothing' to be desired. Mr. "W. Vernon ably discharged the duties oi M.C. Mr. W. McCracken' having offered the use of his paddock, the Te Mata Tennis Club have decided to make three courts there, and a working bee has been organised for the purpose. Mr. H. J. Greenslade is president of the ohib, and the committee consists of Misses 0. McCracken and Hill, and Messrs. W. McCracken, Clinch and Gibson. . The Raglan Mounted Rifles iked a match against, a team representing Te Akau on the Raglan range on the 2.7 th tilt., 10 men a-side, at 200 yds, 300 yds and 400 yds. The totals were:—Raglan Volunteers, 504; Te Akau, 450, the former thus winning by 54 points., For the winners "W. Vernon, E. Pretty, and W. and S. Armstrong were the highest scorers, and foi Te Akau J. Burgess and H. and T. Wilson. At a meeting of persons interested in the proposal to form a company to run launches in the harbour, held at Raglan en the 3rd inst., ft was decided to abandon the project, as Mr. Smith, recently from Taranaki, announced his willingness to embark in the enterprise provided that, after inquiry, sufficient inducement was found to be forthcoming. Mr. Smith is proceeding to Auckland to procure a vessel. . ,
