Amateur Athletics.
The approaching, meeting of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club, to take place on November 4th, at the Basin, Reserve, promises to be one or the most successful ever held am the province. A fine d)ay is all that is required. The entries are unusually large, especially in the sprant events. dose on thirty competitors will toe the line in the 100 yds open handicap, and a similar number in the 220 yds. The ladies' bracelet this season has been allotted to the half-mile cycle, race, and a large field mil take part. The New Zealand team, who will leave the same afternoon for Sydney to compete at the Australasian championship meeting, will be competitors at the local gathering. The mmniimg of Burk, of Otago, will be watched with much interest, in view of his victory over Shrubb over the mile course in February. Messrs. T. Craig, Ross, Drake, and Williams are the other members ot the team, and their efforts should be worth the admission fee alone. Young Goodbehere, the College boy champion, has been elected a member of the club, and will appear in a num.-
ber of the open events. Has efforts in the 100 yds and the 440 yds will be well worth watching. In the distance ©rents there are good fields. Afternoon tea will be provided, at a moderate charge, and a band has, been engaged. Th© evening sports, which were to have been held on Wednesday, 25th instant, had) to b© postponed" on account of the badl weather. These events— 22oyds, 880 yds, and a mile walk— will be got off next week.
