There were mo matches played during the last two Saturdays, on account of the Rugby andi Association representative games. To-morrow (Saturday) the matches will be resumed. Federal meet City at Seatoun, and Newtown joumev to Petone to try conclusion with thei club of that name. The secretary of the Auckland League is in Wellington, and ia arranging for the Auckland team to play here. The Fitzroy v. Oarlton match was witnessed by 18,000 spectators. Fitzroy won. The game was nearly finashed when the players indulged in a little pugilistic exhibition, which should iresult in' players and all concerned being disqualified for life. A great surprise was the defeat of South Melbourne by Essendott, by 95 points to 39. Essendon had not been claying good football up tall they met South Melbourne, and the result was a great shook to the Souths 7 sympathisers. Mortimer, playing for Williamstown aeramst Essendon, kicked eight goals out of a total of thirteen, whichi is a record. McCallum, of Melbourne, arrived last week, and has thrown in. his lot with the City Club.
