ELECTION OE CITY COUNCILLORS
TO THE BURGESSES OF THE CITY OF WELLINGTON.
TO THE CITIZENS OF WELLINGTON
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,— Some say that I have made too m any enemies to give me a chance at the Poll on the 26th inst. Ido not believe it I certainly have made enemies who. no doubt, bear me much hatred and malice, but I have made them in the discharge of what I have conscientiously considered to be my public duty. I place too much faith in the uprightness of the majority of the people of Wellington to doubt that for every one of my enemies I have made a dozen friends, and I am therefore confident, that my earnest public efforts in the cause of justice will not be fcfrgctten on election day, and that the electois will place me neai the top of the Poll. I cannot clam to be a bom New Zealander, but I am an out-and-out plain speaking Britisher for all that (which is the next best lecommendation); moreover, I have been a continuous resident in Wellington for the past 12 years, and no young or old New Zealander can justly claim to have the cause of the citizens and of the colony more at heart, or to have made greater self-sacrifices in its advancement, than I have. I ask each one of my friends to work quietly for me between now and the 26th. If they will do this, my enemies may do their worst. I am, Ladies and Gentleman, Your faithful servant, Y. M. BRAUND.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.- It will be your privilege on the 26th inst to elect the City Councillors for the ensuing two years. On your choice depends whether the affairs of the city ar.e to be conducted in a businesslike way to the best advantage of all the citizens or otherwise. A large number of Candidates have come forward, and I would ask you to remember that there are large qupstions of finance to be dealt with by the Council, which will require very careful consideration. Details can safely be left with the Council's officials to be dealt with, but you must have men with sufficient intelligence and knowledge of business methods to direct them, so that the funds of the city shall not be wasted on unnecessary and unprofitable undertakings It is useless to make promises which most likely cannot be fulfilled owing to lack of means If you have sufficient confidence in my ability to serve you in a stiaight-forward way I would ask you for your support on the day of plection, and if you honour me with yoiu confidence I shall endeavour to cany out the duties (which I know are not trifling ones) to the best of my ability.— l am, Yours faithfully,
W. H. MORRAH
