Trees. (For the Free Lance.)
I know ttli' bush an' love it too, 'Cause all that's, in it talks to me, An' says its glad, an' right, an' true, An/ jus' what it wat, meant to be! I like that sinewy vine up there That's left the straggling Konini To climb a big wliate-pine branch, where On orchid droops so pensively. See those trees growing tall an 5 fine An' straight an' big — while others aie Quite dwarfed an' twisted, an' incline A lot from perpendicular. Some have a good clear space to gp^ow, An' some again have hindered been In their ascent but even so I see their leaves are jus* as green, An' they give shelter to the fern An' moss an' little) plants that grow Close to the ground' — an' these in turn Protect th' great roots strung below. What? "Nothing muohi in this!" you say. Pen-haps not. Yet it pleases me To think that after all I may Be ius' what I was meant to be! — Todh.
