A REVOLUTION IN ROOFING. The "Cathedral" Asbestos Hoofing Tile.i^

11 '^ NON-COMBUSTIBLE WATERPROOF SOUNDPROOF WEATHERPROOF STRONG, HARD, AND DURABLE INSULATING AGAINST HEAT, COLD, OR DAMP INDESTRUCTIBLE BY ROT, INSECT, OR VERMIN TOUGH, ELASTIC, AND LIGHT IN WEIGHT The " Cathedral" Asbestos Roofing is . . FAST AGAINST SEA WATER DOES NOT OXIDISE DOES NOT FREEZE DOES NOT CRUMBLE Owing to the hea\y pressure it is subjected to in the course of manufacture (1500 tons) the freshly made slate takes only one-fourth of the water up which an ordinary slate would take up, and we guarantee that our " CATHEDRAL TILES " will not take up any water at all when they are a few months old, i.e., they improve in this respect after having been on the roof for some time. The " CATHEDRAL" TILE can be cut with a knife or saw ; it can be painted, grained, polished, and glued together like wood ; it can be veneered to form pannelling for walls or for partitions for ship cabins or railway carnages ; such panelling will not swell, crack, or blister. The "CATHEDRAL" TILE does not split wb.6n a nail is driven through it. The resisting power of the " CATHEDRAL " TILE is very great, and cannot be compared with any existing covering for buildings. In spite of its great resisting powers it is very elastic ; for instance, you can throw a " CATHEDRAL " TILE on the ground without showing, in most cases, the slightest crack. The grey coloured slate is not only agreeable to the eye, but it also keeps off the sun's rays, therefore highly suitable for the summer season. The " CATHEDRAL TILE" is cool in summer and warm in winter. The " CATHEDRAL " TILE can be had in grey, red, and black colours. In addition to all the advantages enumerated, the weight is only one-fourth of iron, and a covering of a square yard weighs only 16 lb. The light weight is a great saving in building material, because not having to support such heavy weight as by using ordinary or natural slates. The usual size of our Tile is 16 inches square, and it require? only seven or eight to cover a square yard, and is done very rapidly owing to its universal size. Considering all these advantages there is a considerable saving in comparison to natural slates or coverings {Corrugated Iron not excluded). " CATHEDRAL" TILES can be used with the greatest advantage for all kinds of coverings. A workman can easily carry a number of " CATHEDRAL " ROOFING TILES and take them up to the roof, and will have no difficulty in dressing the slate, as any desired shaping can be done on the roof with a saw or knife without danger of the slates splitting or cracking. Moreover, the slates may be nailed by means of broad-headed galvanised wire nails without taking any harm. The following illustrations afford an example of the method of fixing the " CATHEDRAL " TILE :—

The "CATHEDRAL" ROOFING TILE possesses greater elasticity and strength than natural slates. Security against Wellington storms is insured by the close and tight fitting upper slates and the fastening by means of Storm Clamps. Very artistic effects may be produced by the aesthetic manipulation of two or more colours, and these at only a slight extra cost on corrugated galvanised iron. As "CATHEDRAL" TILES are self-colours they retain their tone, and never require painting. The wind and rain storms of Wellington will not bleach nor deteriorate them, and they are therefore practically everlasting. Entire houses can be constructed out of our Asbestos-Cement Sheets. These sheets are specially manufactured for outside walls, inside linings and ceilings, and are particularly adapted for outer walls in crowded centres, as they reduce fire risks and fire insurance premiums to an absolute minimum. Asbestos Cement Sheets render houses warm and dry in winter — a desideratum in a country where the winter season covers half the year. Asbestos-Cement Sheets are specially suitable for stables, coach-houses, and the like, being at once superior in appearance, durable, efficient, and: inexpensive. If you are about to build do not order your roofing until you ha\e called on the Sole Agents for New Zealand at Jervois Quay, and inspected the "CATHEDRAL" TILES. To see them is to order them. Full particulars gladly supplied to every one interested in these Tiles, whether buyers or enquirers only. " CATHEDRAL" ROOFING TILES are gripping popular favour, and must quickly supersede the old-fashioned, short-lived, and expensive roofings. Their three essential qualities are . — FIRE=PROOF, DAMP=PROOF, AND IMPERVIOUS TO THE RAVAGES OF THE SALT SEA-AIR.
