Dick's Fix.
—"Taihape Post."
In this hen-pecked chunk of Ernpiie there's a wluspei on the breeze That they're going to stop oui liquor if they can, And our social gla,ss of whisky change to bun-and-soanda] teas, To emancipate the poor down-trodden man Now, when in a. yielding hour, we vested civic power In our sisters and our cousins and cvi aunts, Who'd have thought they'd turn higihkickeis, and up,set our friendly hquoi s And pelt us with determined "shalls" and "shan'ts"? There's a Nemesis at hand, for the baby's contraband, The little snipe is veiy near extinct; The shrinkage is alarming, though our wives aie still so charming, And the output with our destiny is lmked. And Oom Dick is agitated at the prospect, and it's stated That the problem that is addling his pate, Is how to build a nation, minus grog and population. And still to fill the coffeis of the State. And his genial soul is vexed, and' his - mind is sore perplexed, For his stock-in-trade is slipping from his view"; With no coming generation to relieve the situation, The old man leallv don't know what to do.
