LAST Friday evening the Hierh School Old Girls' Association entertained a g/ieafc many guests at a vary enjoyable- "At Home." Progressive euchre and vanous competitions occupied the guests until 10 o'clock. After supper the central ball was piepaired for dancing the tables being arranged the whole length of the corridor, and very prettily decorated' with tall rases of chrysanthemums and soft foliage * * * In the side-rooms the competitions weie "Advertisements," "Geographical," and "Feeling," and the guessing was responsible for much fun. Miss Mowat and Mr. Morton won the euchre prizes, Miss Robinson the "feeling" contest, and Miss Spragec the "geographical." After suwper, the pmzes were nresented by Miss Morrah. and then dancing commenced. The music was supplied by Mr. Fleming. The charier ones werte Mrs. B. M WiKon and Mrs. Waters, both of whom ore ' old "-iris," and members of the Association. « * * Miss Morrah was wearing a pretty black satin gown. Miss Ecolesfield also wore black ; Miss Batham, in a pretty silk dress, relieved with lace Mists Sanderson (tihe secretary of the Association) wore a becoming dress of ro^e silk, much shirred. Miss Gribson was weai ing black , Miss Stevenson, in black, with chiffon fichu. Othei guests were Misseis Hannah, Kirkoaldie, Chantrey-Harns, Cuitis, Barron Tabuteau, Warburton, Ashbolt, Grant, Maw at. • • • A veiy enjoyable piogressive euchre paitv and dance was aiiainged by a committee comp using Mesdames McGnr, F E. Cooper, Smith, Cusack, Scott and Misses Mclntyre, WuLliamscnt, and Smith. It took place at the New Centuiy Haill, on Wednesday evening, May 18th. Euchre was played for an hour or two, and the remainden of the evening wa.s spent in dancing. The prizes were wan by Mrs. T. Youog (set of silver tearspoons), Mrs 1 . Richardson (silver hairpin box) and Mrs. Johnson (silver shoe-horn 1 ) ; Mr. Warwick (first) cigarette case. The other prizes were a cigarette-holder and silver match-box. Some pietty di esses were worn. Mrs McGnr and Mrs. Cooper received the guests The farmer wore a blouse of pale blue merveilleux, and a black voile skirt Mrs. Cooper's gown of cieam voile was teiieved with turquoise blue. Mrs. Smith was wearing a pretty blue silk blouse, black skirt , Mrs. Cusack, lemon-coloured evening blouse, black skirt. Mrs. Scott was in white silk. Mrs. Richards ,in pale pink silk Mrs. Goldsmith, in white musilm Mrs. Morris wore eau-de-nil silk Mrs. Jordan, m deet> shade of cream silk Mrs. Johnson old a:old satin. • • • Mrs Johnson was in heliotrope silk ■ Mis. Wallis, daughtei of Mr. B Walks, Wellington, was married to Mi . W. Wearne, son of Mr. J. Wearne, Ballaiat, Victoria. The bride wore a beonmms; dress of cream voile, with lace mseitions. and was attended r- Mis® J. Wearne (si&ter of the bridegroom), and Miss L. Simmons, who weie attired! in dainty cream voile frocks, and picture hats. They also wore greenstone brooches the eift of the bridegroom Messrs F. Wallis and E. Danby were were best man and groomsman. • ♦ * After the wedding ceremony, a leception was held in the Primitive Methodist schoolroom, \\heie the wedding - breakfast was served, and the usual toasts honoured. The wedding gifts were numerous and costly, and included a oheoue and a carpet square from Messrs. George and George in whose employ both the bride and bi idiegroom have been for some yea.i s. • • • Mrs. Gl over-Eaton, L.R.A.M., will very probably form a small private class for pait-singine. the practices taking place at her rooms, the Terrace. Partsinging is excellent practice, and veiy delightful to listen to when the choir has been well trained. • • • Mis. Fitchett's small tea, given last Friday for Miss Coyla Brown, was a \e.i— en-jovable one. A most entertaining, competition was arranered. the piizes beino- won eventually by Miss M. Cbatfield, a tailor-made gown of blue cloth, with touches of crimson and gold ; Mi««s Peaivon, a stylish, navy tailor-majc gown. and 1 a pretty black velvet bat with long black ostlich plume fastened with buckle. • • « Miss M. Robinson, who is in practice as barrister and solicitor. Mrs. Robinson and Miss Marjory Robinson have been staying with friends here, en route to their new home.
