Cricket.
i have not heard, but there is every probability, that senior championship mutches will be resumed on Saturday week, the 9th instant. Of course, cncket is a summer pastime, and the w< ather this week does not ind'cate that summer is still with us. The Wellington Club have won the junior champ ionsh p. This is the only one of the three championships under the Cricket Association decided so far. At a private dinner given to Hugh Trumble, Noble hinted that there is a probability that Trumble will be the manager of the next AustraLan team. I feel with an Australian scribe, though, that many would prefer _to see the lengthy one go as a player in preference te going as manager. Trumble's figures in all fiist-class matches read as follows- — Batting 357 innings, 70 not outs, 107 highest score, runs 5573, average 19.41. Bowling 45,010 balls, 2749 maidens, 17,450 runs, 946 wickets, average 18.44. I hear the Cricket Association is sending a deputation to the Reserves Committee of the City Councl. Probably the intended improvements ta the Basin Reserve are the cau&e of the deputation.
