Cricket.

The dismissal of the Wellington team for twenty-two runs in its second innings by the Canterbury players at New Year time is not likely to be forgotten by local enthusiasts for a while. But, a Taranaki paper adds another sting to the rebuff received by our players an reporting the match in this wise . —

CRICKET. Canterbury v. Wellington. (Per Press Association.) Change of water often brings on . diarrhoea. For this reason many experienced travellers carry a bottle of Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy with them to be used in case of an emergency. This preparation has no equal as a cure, etc. [By some means best known to the inner circles of a printing office the above paragraph got misplaced, and makes strange reading.] * * * A cricket problem — Wellington beat Auckland, Auckland beat Canterbury, Canterbury beat Wellington. Which is the best team ? Senior championship matches will be resumed to-morrow (Saturday). At the time of writing— early in the week— l am inclined to think they will be, but 1 have heard nothing definite on the matter. Junior and third-class cricket matches were played under the auspices of the Wellington Cricket Association last Saturday. I cannot congratulate that body therefor, in view of the amateur sports meeting beine held at the same time on the Basin Reserve. But little in terest is being manifsted in the North v. South Island match, and, unless some energy is put into it, it will be only courting a financial loss to play it in "Wellington. We have had a fair share of good things so far, and the Wellington public generally gets tired of sport, if it is not fully impressed upon them that the bill-of-faie is a good one. The tlnrd test match between England and Australia commences at Adelaide to-day (Friday). Should England win this match, the destination of those "ashes" will be again transferred to the Old Country, and, to prevent such a happening, the Australians may be confidently expected to be on their best behaviour from a cricket standpoint on this occasion.
