The dirty face was smeared and wet, Her clothes were daubed, I do declare To wash her face she'd tried and vet Had soiled herself from hem to hail ' The mother stopped. An angry look Flashed for a moment In its placi A flood of love welled up. she took And kissed ten times that dirty face '
