A Mile from Town.
Over the hills, a mile from, town, The grey and the gold of the morning's seen , Kingly clouds, with crown on crown, Vestures of purple and crimson sheen. Over the hills, a mile from town, 3y the booming merge of a rasthng sea, Of a leeless wane you may drink draughts down, And it brings' to the soul but ecstacy. Over the hills, a mile from town, 'Mid the purpling hues of the closing The dulcet songlets of thrushes drown, Regrets m their soul-puls'd mm.strelsy. Over the hills, a mile from town, One's thoughts go back on a misty way ; And youth is present, and every frown Of life is banished in memory. Over the hills, a mile from town, The soul looks out to the glowing west. 'And over a pathway of gold comes * down A message that here life's liv'd the best.
