Wairarapa Football.
The concluding match of the second round m senior football calls for little comment. Masterton met Greytown, on the latter's ground, on Satuiday, and suffered defeat to the tune of six to nil. The elements were all that could be desired, but the ground was exceedingly greasy. Masterton lost the services for tJie occasion of three of its best forwards, while the first reserve was also indisposed. Charters was detained in Wellington on account of a presentation, which, we understand, was being made to him in honour of his approaching wedding. Spackman and Darnell, as well as F. Marsh, were on the temporarily retired last through illness and injuries received. Greytown was unfortunately without the able services of Ahipene, who also failed tlie "rep." team recently. Dockery filled the vacancy on Saturday. Gordon Ehott and Prendeville obliged the visiting team by taking the field in preference' to allowing a shortage. Throughout the game, honours were fairly even, and neither side could claim much of an advantage in any department. E. Workman scored a nice try, after a passing rush, during which the ball went through the hands of several of his comrades. The second score was also a try. notched by Maguire, who performed the sleight-of-hand trick at Logans expense, and veered out of reach of two or three opponents. No scoring took place during the second spell. Rogers converted Maguire's try, but the additional figures were disallowed for a> violation ot an important rule on place kicking— viz., handling the ball twice. Udy played a dashing game in the forward division of the home team, as did Warner on the wing for Masterton. This player is showing wonderful improvement every match, and should do well if chosen to represent the combined team as "winger" against New Zealand. Raisen and Workman for Greytown, and Lambie for Masterton, were a.so consp cuous in the vanguard from a spectators' point of view. E Workman and Rogers played the best back games for the local team. Williams, Logan, and Marsh did plenty of passing alternately for Masterton. Mr. E. McKenzie controlled the game Tnth his usual judgment.
