BANKS, LIMITED, have pleasure • in announcing that they have opened a College for business training in Wellington under the above name, and are now prepared to train students in the following subjects : — Accountancy, Auditing and Book-keeping (elementary and advanced), Commercial Law (Bills of Exchange and all negotiable instruments a speciality ; Commercial and Shipping Documents and. Forms), Filing (all systems taught, but special attention will be given to Card Systems and Vertical Filing) , Press Copying (the latest methods), Invoicing, Indexing, Business Correspondence and General Office Routine. Typewriting and Shorthand classes will be started shortly, and special attention will be given to these subjects. The College will be equipped with all the principal Typewriters, and the touch system will be taught, which greatly increases the speed and lessens fatigue. The touch system is now being taught in America with exceedingly satisfactory results. No Theory. The student handles papers and books just as if engaged in actual business. THE "CHAMPION" DEFENDERS OF THE NORTH. ALWAYS READY ! From the "Daily Telegiaph," Napier, 20th February. " From information which has reached us we are led to understand that at the annual meeting of the Millers' Combine yesterday it was decided to continue the operations which have rendered the syndicate notorious during the last couple of years but to make an exception in regard to Auckland. If that is so it appears that other towns are still to suffer from the monopoly sought to be established. In Auckland the Combine have met their match, so far, in the Northern Roller Milling Company, producers of the ' Champion ' Brand. The Company, by refusing to have anything to do with the Combine, prevented the latter taking an unfair advantage of the householders of that province, and to a certain extent have assisted other districts to fight the unwholesome monopoly in breadstuffs which affects the the table of the working classes to such a substantial extent. This has been done by establishing agencies in other towns for the sale of the Company's Flour. Napier has been benefited in that way, and as the Company are engaged in such a struggle, it behoves all interested in the issue to support them."
