Bowling Notes
By Wrong Bias.
The chief event of Saturday was the game for the Edwin Feathers. This resulted in a hollow victory for Newtown, who scored 36 against Petone's 11. This is the last match for the Huias, Price and his merry men holding them till next season. ♦ * * Brogan's barque tried to reach port, but got on a lee shore, and foundered. Brogan, 19, Shoie, 25— well done, junior. I am glad to see the genial George Prince at woik again amongst the bowls. His trip to Rotorua has set him up wonderfully. ♦ • • One of the most closely contested games of the season was played on the Victoria green on Saturday, when the Britannia Lodge met the Antipodeans, the holders' of the Smith badges. A ding-dong game resulted in a tie on the 21st head — 18 all. On the play-off, the Antipodeans scored one, and so managed to retain possession of the trophies. Mack made a great bid for the Hamerton Badges, but made his final effort too late just losing by three points— 26-29. There was exceptionally heavy scoring m this game. On the 15th head Mack was 12 to Hueston s 24, and in the remaining six heads put on 14 to his opponent's 5. Hueston and Co., ,can now polish up the badges in readiness^ for next October. ♦ * * TJownsend made his final nutter on Saturday'before leaving for the Old
Country, and with Sluitchffo succeeded m annexing the Town send Buckles. A. Dixon and President Mackay being simply smothered — 2u-13. Fred was m good nick, the fust Mnamar divy bulging his pocket. Kibblewhita was surely off colour on Saturday. He certainly did scene in six heads, but MacMorran only allowed him singles. Mac kept piling up big heads till the final was reached, none too soon for his opponent. — 3-4-6 * * * The Subscription Paiis final, on the Thoindon green, uroduced a very exciting game. Brown and Longton ]ust managed to get home against King and Mowbray by the narrow majority of one point.— l 9-18. Why did Burns and Sievw right leave their game at 19 all ? Of course, both cannie Scots can say "they were no' lickit '" That's very good Sievw right Another close finish occurred in the game w here the two w amors Ross and Rose met again, the former doing tJie trick with one point only to spare. — 19-18. The Education Department had to cry enough to the Rules and Compass when it got on to the fatal number 13. The scores w"eie Flanagan 22 Hogben 13 - The end of the season is now within measuiable distance. Petonei closed down a fortnight ago, and Thomdon, I believe, threw up the sponge last Saturday. Victona will finish up next Saturday with a game of old buffers versus thei boys. It strikes me that the old 'uns will just about wan. By-the»-by the ladies of the Victoria Club are making special efforts to give the bowlers a right royal time next Saturday. Needless to say all bowlers will be heartily welcomed. The Wellington Club is still going. I notice from the daily papers that some scratch games were played there on Saturday. Ballinger and Allan now hold the Edwin Buckles. lam told the Neiwto-wn Club badly wanted to have another tussle for them. Too late.
