Rugby Football.
On Tuesday morning, while sauntering along to daily toil, I met Alec Hill, the popular president of the Oriental Football Club. Of course, our talk got round to football matters — the prospects of the Oriental Club in the approaching season more particularly. Neither of us at that time had read the morning paper. My surprise, therefore, can be imagined when I noticed that Edgar Wylie was returning to Wellington. From inquiries made, I find that, he returns to the firm of Morison and Loughnan at the beginnmcr of the month. Edgar was very popular in Wellington, both as captain of the Oriental Club and as a representative player, and his return ait this juncture must be indeed pleasing to his old club mates. That he will revive interest in the club goes without question, and his election to its leadership can be foretold without any fear of the pot being upset. * * * "Full Back" says —"The Wellington football correspondent of a Southern paper was- rather unfortunate in his choice of reply to present writer's statement that it would come as a shock to Rugbyites in New Zealand to find a motion carried at the New Zealand
Rugby Union for separation from the English Union when he stated that "possibly it would be a shook to a very small section in Dunedin, which fondly imagines that it runs the whole show of colonial Rugby." This from the source known so well at this end is a good joke. As a matter of fact, tlhere is only one individual who has imagined, and is still fondly imagining, he can control Rugby football in New Zealand." Now, who does my confrere mean? Don't all reply at once.
Did you notice the times for those two Australian, swimming championships? Dick Cavill won the NewSouth. Wales 220 yds championship in 2min 32 2-stihsec, Robb the Victorian ditto in 3mm llseo — a matter of 38 3-sthsec in favour of Dick Oavill.
