Rowing Notes.

By Native.

The regatta to-morrow (Saturday) promises to be the most successful ever held in Wellington. There is a splendid entry for all of the events and nearly all of the competing crews at the Championship Regatta will be present. Canterbury will not be represented in the Senior Fours, as O. Callaghan who came from Haw era to complete their crew for the Championshm Regatta, could not spare the time to come to Wellington. * The Wanganui and Aramoho Clubs are not represented. Thanks to the energy displayed by Mr A G Johnson, the subscriptions are coming in well 1 , and the financial position is assured. Messrs. Stewart Dawson and Co. have presented a, handsome cup tor the club scoring the largest number ot rointe, and the committee also have a, gold medal at their disposal. Messrs. H. M. Lyon and G. Humphries will act as t : me-keepers. The Duco will carry the umpire and general public, leaving the Ferry Wharf at 2 p.m. The Janie Seddon has been placed at the disposal of the committee, and will carry subscribers. * * Following are the entries for the various events • — Senior Fours.— Wellington, Blenheim, Kawatiri, Union (Wanganui). Maiden Fours.— Avon (Christchurch , Union (Christchuroh), Canterbury. Wellington, Star, Petone (2), Waitemata, Union (Wanganui). _ Junior Fours. — Canterbury, btar, Wellington, Union (Wanganui). Senior Double Sculls.— Otago, Amateur (Christchuroh), Canterbury, Wellington, Star, Petone. . Maiden Double Soulls. — Union (Christchureh\ Wellington, Star (2), Petone. Junior Clinker Fours.— Avon (Christchuroh), Canterbury, Wellington, Star, Union (Christohurch), Waitemata,, Union (Wanganui). . Youths' Fours.— Union (Christchurch). Canterbury, Blenheim, Wellington, Star, Petone. Senior Sculls.— Otago Wellington (2), Star, Union (Wanganui). * * * At the time of writing, I have not got the results of the Wanganui Regatta to help me in attempting to pick the winners of the various events, but will stick to my previous choice, and take the Wellington Club to win the Senior Fours and Pairs. After their display at Christchurch, Mahoney and Fry, from Christohurch Amateur Club, should make a good race with the Otago Club (Priest and McGrath) in the Double Sculls. I like the chances of Star in the Maiden and Junior Fours and think that Union (Christohurch) should win the Youths' Fours. McGrath ought to win the Senior Sculls, and Star or Union (Christchuroh) the Maiden Double Soulls. * * * A large number of oarsmen and enr thusiasts passed through. Wellington en route for the Championship Regatta early in the week. Amongst the latter were Messrs. Atack, Styche (2), A. L. Smith, Morrison (Canterbury), and Priest (Otago). The Managing Committee of the N.Z. A.R.A. met last week, and had a busy time with the rules of the various local associations, which have been submitted. I hear that the question of rowing Maiden Races in boats other than pro*vided for bv the rules of the N.Z. A R.A. • at the recent Canterbury Regattas will be brought before delegates at the meeting of the N.Z. A.R.A. on the 20th prox. The Christchurch Regatta Club had a rather bad day for their regatta at Stewarts Gully, on the 12th. The distance for some of the races had to be curtailed, on account of the rough state of the water. Christchurch Amateur and Canterbury rowed a dead heat mi the Senior Fours, after an exciting race. Union won £42, winning the Youths' Double Sculls and Fours, Junior Double Sculls and Fours, and Maiden Double Sculls; Canterbury, £25, winning the Maiden Fours, and dead heat for the Senior Fours , Ohristchurch Amateurs, £21, winning Senior Pairs and Senior Double Sculls, and dead heat for the Senior Fours. Mahoney and Fry represented the Christchurch Amateur in the Senior Double Sculls, and Crosbie and Fry in the Pairs.
