Pollard Opera Company.
The Pollard Opera, Company open at the Opera House am Thursday, 6th February with "The Toreador," a bright and sparkling opera resulting from the collaboration of Harry Nioholls, Ivan Caryll and Lionel Monckton. "Ihe Toreador" has been the ruling attraction at London Gaiety since June. 1901, which seems to be a tolerably good guarantee that it is worth listening to. The music is bright and sparkling, and there are excellent parts for ail the principals. Pollards' new tenor, Percival Aylmer has a capital role, and Miss Connie Buttel is ah\ ays sure ot three encores for her song "My loreador." , During the season, the Pollards will produce, for the first time anywhere, the comic opera "Tapu/ the music of which is by Mr. Alf Hill, and the words by Mr. Arthur Adams. Extensive preparations are being made, and Mr Hill is now with the company in Dunedin, conducting: the rehearsals. The scemery and wardrobe, which were prepared in Melbourne are said to be superb. # * The Pollard girls are coin- in very strongly for cricket during their present tour of New Zealand.
